International Support to Brazil and Latin America in the Field of Digital Communication and Digital Journalism

Abstract

This essay analyses the international aid received by Brazil and Latin America in the fields of digital communication and digital journalism during the last 30 years. It provides first insights regarding the international and national (Brazil to other Latin American countries) support offered to develop practices, research and studies focused on digital communication, digital social networks, and Internet. In digital times, this type of support has crossed the frontier of communication studies, blending the fields of communication and telecommunications. Among the institutions that provide international aid are, for example, International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Ford Foundation and Open Society.
